After receiving a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, Jim earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1987. Shortly thereafter he started practicing Personal Injury Law in Southern Colorado. In 1990 he added Workers' Compensation Law and Social Security Law to his areas of practice. Jim is a member of the Workers' Compensation Education Association and the National Organization of Social Security Representatives.
